You are not the first to ask; “why renovate a laundry and linen closet first, when you have a whole house to do?”. Well as you might know I like my things tidy and because the house in general is very liveable I wanted to do the rooms where all the tidiness happens to be done first. I love doing laundry and folding my linens so I want these rooms (closets) to be pretty, organised and functional. It gives me peace and onwards I’ll go to make the rest of the house pretty.
I want to show you what we have done to the laundry closet with minimal effort and money.

This is what it looked like when we moved in. There’s too much going on here that’s not really working. A black tiled floor, 3 different sorts of wall, shelves that don’t match and no surface to fold on.
We started off by painting the ceiling white, cleaning the wall tiles, removing the shelves and Bo wallpapered the sloped wall with fibreglass wallpaper and painted it in the same white as the rest of the closet. He also made a proper door for the storage area in the back and cut out a heart that is not just cute but also functions as a door handle.

By that point I thought to myself; I’m going to live with the black floor, I SAID I’M GOING TO LIVE WITH THE BLACK FLOOR! I’m so not going to live with a black floor. So I picked out white matte hexagon tiles, Bo thought were the devils work but he went for it as I reassured him that it was going to look great.

We glued them over the black tile using a primer and tile on tile paste. As the hexagon tiles come in square mats it’s just sort of a jigsaw puzzle and in no-time the whole closet was tiled and Bo was really excited and loved the floor. That night we wanted to put our bed in the closet and sleep on the pretty white tiled floor.
We used light grey grout, an IKEA oak kitchen worktop and an IKEA SÄVEDAL kitchen cupboard that Bo pimped with crown moulding and tongue and groove panelling.

We spent about €550 to update this closet and a few days. I’m super pleased with the result.
